An evening for eternity: My look behind Thomas Müller's last home game at the Allianz Arena
May 12, 2025
Last Saturday, I was privileged to be part of a very special moment – Thomas Müller's final home game with FC Bayern. But not just as a spectator: I was able to produce his farewell video in advance. A project that was special for me on several levels – human, creative, and emotional.
It all started with a request from Thomas' management, asking if I could help produce a farewell video. The answer was clear: of course. But with the project came a great responsibility – because it was about much more than a typical video. It was about one of the most important moments in the career of a player who has inspired me personally for years: as a colleague, as a friend – and as a person.
For me, Thomas Müller represents authenticity, humor, and an unbridled will to succeed. Qualities that deeply impress me – and that I wanted to capture with this film.

This is how the production went
The collaboration was – as always – straightforward and efficient. After an initial briefing, I created a rough cut based exclusively on DFL archive footage – without any voiceover, just as a reference. We then went to the recording studio in Munich together. There, we showed Thomas the video – accompanied by deliberately emotional, but not overly over-the-top music.
And then something special happened: Instead of a pre-written text, Thomas spontaneously narrated his thoughts on the images. Honest, direct, human. This is precisely what gave the video its unique tone.
My goal was to keep the video as close to reality as possible. No artificial pathos, no over-the-top hero's journey – but an authentic glimpse into the heart of a player saying goodbye. I hope I achieved just that.

The game, the goosebumps, the celebration
The day after the release, management invited me to be there live at the stadium. The evening was a true highlight: people who inspired me. Emotions that got under my skin. And a game that was carried by gratitude.
The farewell ceremony at the Allianz Arena was particularly impressive, of course – followed by the championship celebration. One moving moment followed the next.
And it got even more exclusive: Afterwards, we went to Thomas Müller's official farewell party – an intimate, magnificent celebration. Being able to take my girlfriend Janine there was another highlight for me personally. The moment when she was able to meet Thomas in person was emotionally very special for me – two worlds of my life that became one that evening.

What remains
This project wasn't just a job. It was a vote of confidence. And an experience I'll never forget. Unlike corporate films, every detail of these projects is emotionally charged. And that's exactly what makes them so special—and so challenging.
The feedback on the video was very positive, especially from the people who saw it in person. Of course, I would have liked a bit more reach online—but what really matters is the direct response. And the moment Thomas personally thanked me remains priceless to me.
I'm grateful. For this project. For the trust. For the emotions. And for the reminder that it's worth fighting for your goals.
A special thank you goes to Thomas' management - especially Christian - for the great collaboration and continued trust.
